The Name and Concept is called Soda Steve’s.  Steve Pool has lead several church missions for Gore United Methodist Church. The name Soda Steve’s came from the second Church Mission to the country of Costa Rica.  

While Leading a mission team of twelve, in February of 2004, Steve Pool, Soda Steve’s Executive Chef/Creator/Namesake, and his team, roomed  in various homes and open air buildings  in the small town of Matina on the east coast of Costa Rica.   Matina is akin to one of the old western towns in the America of the past. Situated in a hot steamy area of the country, sporting old open air buildings on streets of dirt and gravel that became mud bogs during daily rains of the Caribbean complete with an assortment of barefoot children, underfed canines and old Costa Rican men sitting on the steps playing their version of dominos. Matina sits amidst thousands of acres of Banana Groves, with Dole Pineapple fields just to the south.  Steve’s mission team took all of their daily meals at a small café that was owned by the wife of a Methodist Minister, her name was Brenda.  In Costa Rica it is customary for the owner of the establishment to include their name with the type of eatery on the sign above the establishment, thus the name of here café was, “Soda Brenda”.  

Soda Brenda was a very small open air café on the gravel streets of Matina   Brenda had a wonderful and inviting personality always glad to see the team and even more eager to please them with her authentic Costa Rican Cuisine.  Soda Brenda had a seating capacity of about 14 guests, and  served home cooked meals with a Costa Rican touch using lots of fresh bananas and pineapples  all prepared by Brenda.  Drinks consisted of Lite Pineapple punch or sodas purchased from the rustic glass bottle Coke machine. All of these contribute to the rustic Caribbean retro feel of Soda Steve’s all the while incorporating Steve’s personality and cuisine.  Over the course of the mission, team members began to urge Steve to change the name of the quick service restaurant at Fin and Feather Resort from the “Verandah” to “Soda Steve’s”.

Business Concept

Soda Steve’s is first and foremost a relaxed, very casual family experience with the focus on unique as well as usual fun food and a comfortable, safe clean and enjoyable environment. It is someplace that you want to be.
